April 12, 2009 - Easter Sunday Afternoon

Allison was having an ok morning today. She was destating (oxygen levels going too high or too low) a bit and had a little apnea spell while we were there, but it is time for her next blood transfusion and she usually destabilizes a bit when she's about due for one of those. The good news is she will finally be getting the direct donated blood from Kevin, so we're happy about that. We spoke with Dr. Naglie at length today about her lungs, he doesn't feel we should be overly concerned right now; her x-ray this morning looked about the same. While he thinks the original infection is probably almost gone, he explained that the residual affect is that the infection scars new spots in her lungs - but because she is so young, her lungs are basically growing "new" tissue all the time and he seems optimistic that if she can keep eating and fattening up, she'll recover nicely. We asked about her head scar from the attempts to put a fetal monitor on her right before the emergency c-section--it seems like it should look more healed than it does, but he said it's doing ok, but most likely she will have a permanent scar there, though of course as she gets bigger it will be much smaller on her head. She is also up again on her feedings to 6.5cc/hour, so that's good. They are really working hard to get her growing. :)
